Protecting your purpose is a lot like having a baby. Similar to a pregnant woman waiting to deliver, you’ll have to shield whatever God has placed within you. Your vision could be anything – such as launching a new business, trusting God for a miracle, strengthening a relationship, or spearheading a ministry.
In Luke chapter 1, God answered Zechariah and Elizabeth’s prayers, and allowed them to supernaturally conceive their son, John.– such as launching a new business, trusting God for a miracle, strengthening a relationship, or spearheading a ministry.
The Bible states:
“Zechariah asked the angel, How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years. The angel answered, I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time” (Luke 1:18-20, New International Version).
Has the Lord placed something within you
that needs to be protected? Are your words, relationships, and habits nurturing or destroying it?
Zechariah’s account reveals that, sometimes, God will silence you — and other doubters in your life — in order to protect the vision that you’re carrying. In the Message Bible, Proverbs 18:21 makes the power of words very clear: “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit — you choose.” Negative words have the ability to kill your confidence, and diminish your faith in God. But you have an obligation to protect what God is doing in you (and through you). The Bible states in Luke 1:24 that “Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.” So, do whatever it takes to protect your “baby.” If that means shutting your mouth, shut it! If that means isolating yourself from certain people, isolate yourself! If that means renewing your mind with the Word of God, renew your mind!
